The Billings Logan International Airport needed to update their old outdated website with better functionality, a new look, and a custom content management system. The original site had been showing its age for sometime now due to a theme scheme for winter being used but not changed out with the new seasons. The search feature on the site had stopped functioning correctly and the drop down menu did not display right on the mozilla engine.

After meeting with them and understanding their unique needs and budget we were able to craft a well suited plan for their site to meet their requirements right. The first major change was to recreate the site with up to date semantic markup and web standards. Their old site had been designed/laid out completely in tables and fell far behind todays code requirements for cross browser/platform accessibility. It also did not include very maintainable code.

Upon stripping out their content, we proceeded to build a properly seperated layout structure with CSS and XHTML. For future updates we developed a user friendly Content Management System via PHP and MySQL. The CMS allows them to make changes and perform content maintenance as simple as possible. It does so without sacrificing the quality of their website code as some CMS programs do.

Left Sidebar Navigation

Their original site used an overly complicated and inefficient javaScript drop down menu system that was unpredictable in some browsers. We corrected this issues by creating the new navigation menu system as an XHTML/CSS unordered list while styling the list elements to behave as a sidebar slideout menu on the mouseover action. Below the sidebar main navigation links are the most recent news and upcoming events related to the Logan International Airport. Then below that is the powerful freefind.com site search field. Aside from providing users with a heavily used feature, it also sends weekly reports listing the search phrases used on the site and how many times (this feature is a great way to see what your users would like to see on your site if it's not already there).

Tabbed Navigation

The top header navigation of the page utilizes three tabs for the most commonly sought navigation items (Flight Info, Directions, and Security Information). While the footer provides plain text links for basic navigation needs without the need to scroll back to the top to move around.

Header Items

The header image is done via flash allowing several beautiful images and their transitions to cycle while viewing a page. Just below the header image is the current homeland security advisory for airline industry for those that are interested before or during travel. To the right of the security advisory is the current weather for the Billings, MT area for anyone interested in the current conditions.

Conclusion

Overall the site was a pleasure to build for this client and we can see the many improvements our efforts have made. The site is naturally optimized for search engines with our use of semantic markup, making it easy to find on Google for those needing to locate it quickly. FlyBillings.com is now a much more user friendly and functional website!

Cafe Earth came to us to redevelop their website and turn it into an online store front. The original site was non effective, and visually unapealing giving their company a poor image on the internet. We turned this site into a visually pleasing eye catcher that gets frequent compliments from its visitors. And added ecommerce capabilities making it a great addition to the many ways to purchase and learn more about their products. This project was designed using Adobe Photoshop for the look, feel and all image editing. Macromedia Dreamweaver was used along with hand coded HTML for the structure, and Miva Merchant was used for the store front engine.

Cprsbiweekly.com was designed with the automotive dealership in mind. The clients goal for this site is to allow their dealer agents to calculate biweekly loans with our custom designed loan calculator. The dealer can perform all necessary equations and then proceed directly to a pdf based application in order to start processing the loan request!
